Support the Ottawa Tennis & Lawn Bowling Club
The Ottawa Tennis & Lawn Bowling Club (OTLBC) has reached a point in its history where capital improvements are becoming a more frequent necessity. We have recently rebuilt Courts 5-12 and the results have been wonderful - a superior playing surface, better drainage and quicker drying times. We will soon have to rebuild Courts 1-4 and 13-18 in the same manner. Lighting and fencing are in regular need of maintenance and improvement and our pool, built in 1961, clearly needs a major overhaul.
And then there is our most prized asset - the clubhouse. This building, constructed in 1922-3 and which once entertained the great Bill Tilden following an exhibition match is nearing the end of its structural life. A modernized clubhouse that can be used most, if not all of the year, would create many lucrative opportunities for the club. Not only would it enable us to offer expanded food services through an upgraded and modernized kitchen, but it could become a choice venue in Ottawa for business and social meetings and events, and perhaps even contain a health club or spa.
Unlike some tennis clubs, the OTLBC does not charge its members a mandatory capital levy to fund major club repairs. The membership fees are only designed to cover day-to-day operations, so the OTLBC has no capital fund at its disposal to address longer term needs. The realities of today's economy complicate our financial situation further. As a result we have to rely on your generosity to keep our facilities in top shape and to secure our future.
Energy-Efficient & Improved Tennis Court Lighting - 2010/2011
The OTLBC plans to replace and improve the tennis court lighting. This project is consistent with the Club's continued effort to maintain core OTLBC facilities, including striving to deliver Ottawa's premier tennis club experience!
The Club's existing court lighting is not consistent and is not adequate on all courts. The new lighting will provide brighter, consistent and superior light conditions across all courts - the overall quality will be improved because LED's produce a healthier, natural light. Also, we can expect less glow around the Club at night.
A significant amount of energy utility costs can be saved by converting to LED lights, which are extremely energy efficient lights. Savings of up to 80% in energy savings can be realized depending on the product. The long lasting life and streamlined components for LED's should also result in lower maintenance costs
The currently planned test stage for the whole project involves lighting courts 17 and 18. Increasing the number of lit courts is in the best interest of the Club overall as court demand is at its peak in the evenings. We expect demand to remain strong for lit courts.

Donations made to the OTLBC Capital Fund
The OTLBC is not a registered charity and so donations of any type will not qualify for a tax deduction or tax credit. Nor will "donation tax receipts" be issued. In order for the club to obtain a charitable registration number from the Canada Revenue Agency, our activities would have to be of a strictly charitable nature. Though we are a non-profit organization and sports and recreation club, that serves the Ottawa community by promoting a healthier lifestyle through tennis and other activities, we are not a registered charity for Canadian tax purposes. Donations to the capital fund by a business may be able to deduct such payments from business income as an advertising expense.
Walkway and Laneway Improvement - July 2009
OTLBC Members and Friends rallied together in the summer of 2009 to fundraise for the Pathway Project. We improved the walkway along the back of the clubhouse to courts 1 and 11 and the laneway alongside courts 12 and 13. The project was completed on-time and on-budget and was an enormous success, which is due to the generosity of our members and friends.
