Social Life at the Club
There are many reasons the Ottawa Tennis & Lawn Bowling Club is special. Yes, our members love the 18 Har-Tru tennis courts, outdoor pool, 4 beach volleyball courts and a full service Café and Bar, but it's the cottage atmosphere and the range of activities for families, couples and singles that makes the difference, and has our members spending so much time here during the summer season! In addition to regular gatherings on the balcony, overlooking the action on the courts, we have a variety of social events planned for this season.
2011 Events
Cottage Opening Party (Saturday May 14, 9:00 pm)
Always a very popular event with members, the opening party is
a great way to get the summer season started and reconnect with
your OTLBC cottage friends. Join us for a drink, plenty of fun
and dancing.
Mothers' Day Breakfast (Sunday May 8, 9:00 am - noon)
Celebrate Mother's Day with us! Treat your Mom to our annual
Mother's Day breakfast. Enjoy our classic weekend breakfast menu
or try our NEW Sunday omelette special and choose your own
ingredients from our seasonal and chef's inspired omelette bar.
Reservations are recommended, and can be made at the Front
Desk. As always, the Café is open to non-members.
Wednesday Pub Nights
(May 11- October 5, 5:00 pm - 11:00 pm)
Wednesdays are a big night during the regular season. Many
members plan their week and their tennis games around our
Wednesday evening Pub Nights. Join your friends for drinks and
food, watch the action from the clubhouse balcony and get caught
up on the latest news!
Friday Night BBQ
(May 13 - September 30, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm)
What better way is there to unwind from a tough week than to
let someone else do the cooking! Every Friday evening the Café
staff get a break from the kitchen and man the BBQ station to
serve up delicious barbequed fare and fresh salads. Our Café and
BBQs are always open to members and friends alike, so bring the
family and relax at your "Cottage in the city".
Father's Day Pancake Breakfast (Sunday June 19, 9:00 am - noon)
We think fathers are special too – so we serve up some special pancakes for his special day. All members of the community welcome.
And don’t forget to sign-up for the Family Classic tennis event
– a special round robin for family team. It’s a great way to
spend time with your Dad or someone special in your family.
Court...to Catwalk Fashion Show (Friday May 27, 8:30 pm)
The 3rd Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser will feature the latest
fashions from Bucklands Fine Clothing, Tommy &
Lefebvre and Pom Pom. Come see some of the latest
tennis fashions, sophisticated and casual clothing and beach
attire. The event is organized by Chris Smith of Canada
Court Supply and supported by Greco Lean & Fit
and Allegra Printing.
Admission is $15 and can be purchased at the front desk.
Proceeds from the event are donated to OTLBC capital fund.
Fiesta Latina, presented by Faulkner Real Estate Ltd. (Saturday June 25, 7:30 pm)
Fiesta Latina was a Sold Out
Event! This fundraising event of the season featured
the Yoel Diaz Cuban Jazz Session, the hot Cuban band from
Montreal, playing at the OTLBC after their show at the Montreal
Jazz Festival! Thanks to all of our sponsors, including the
participating restaurants who prepared delicious tapas for the
evening.
Thanks to all for supporting our "Light
up your Game" capital project! The proceeds from the event
will go towards the purchase of new high efficiency LED lighting
for 12 courts.
Breakfast at Wimbledon (Sunday July 3, 9:00 am)
There is no better place to watch the finals of Wimbledon than
at the Club, on our big screen TV and with your fellow tennis
fans. And of course a Wimbledon final would not be complete
without the traditional strawberries and cream. The Café will be
serving this special treat, so come and join us for some great
tennis and sweet treats.
Fred Wong Memorial Dinner (Friday July 8, 7:00 pm)
Join us for a Summer Dinner Event in support of the Fred Wong
Emergency Fund at the Ottawa Food Bank. We continue the
tradition established by Fred Wong who, for 14 consecutive
years, held an annual dinner to celebrate summer with his
friends and raise funds for the Ottawa Food Bank. This dinner in
Fred's memory will offer a buffet with some of Fred's favourite
menu items. Guests are invited to bring non-perishable food
items or make a donation of cash or cheque to The Fred Wong
Emergency Fund at The Ottawa Food Bank on the evening of the
party. Tickets will be available for sale at the front desk in
June.
Closing Party (Saturday Sept 17, 6:00 pm - midnight)
The closing party is one of our most popular events of the season. This year's theme is Newfoundland Kitchen Party -- so get your spoons, your Ugly Stick, and your signing voices ready. Mark your calendar and join your tennis friends to celebrate the end of another great year at the Club. The evening kicks off with cocktails at 6, and dinner at 7. The music starts at 9 to get the Kitchen Party rolling! Tickets available at the front desk in September.
