2010 Competitive Teams and Leagues
Teams and Leagues offer the more competitive intermediate-to-advanced player opportunities for weekly competition against players of similar ability. Entry to these teams and leagues is competitive, by either tryouts or captain's choice, in early May.
Regular participation in these leagues requires a commitment to play most weeks; however, players who cannot make that commitment can also play as occasional spares.
Monday Evening Advanced League (6:20 - 7:40 pm)
This competitive league allows the club's most advanced men and women to play both doubles and singles together. Participants must be rated 5.0 or higher as determined by a club pro. The league operates more like a ladder than most other round-robins, with players moving up and down based on weekly match results.
Tryouts are held at the beginning of the season to select 8 regular players. However, those who miss tryouts or feel that they have improved through the season are able sign up at the Front Desk for the "challenge court." Challengers will have the opportunity to play the lowest ranking regular and work their way up into the weekly roster.
NCTA Mixed Interclub League (Tues and Wed evenings from 6:30 pm)
The Club enters teams in the Tuesday and Wednesday NCTA Mixed Interclub Leagues. The Wednesday league is for players rated 4.0 and above; the Tuesday league for players up to 4.0.
Teams consist of 4 men and 4 women. Regular team players must be members of the NCTA ($25 annual fee) but spares can play twice without a membership. Matches are played at OTLBC and other clubs in the Ottawa region. Each weekly match comprises two sets each of men’s and ladies’ singles, men’s and ladies’ doubles, and mixed doubles.
Ladies' Daytime Interclub League (Thursday 9:00 - 11:30 am)
The Club has traditionally entered two teams in the Ladies’ Daytime Interclub League. Teams consist of 4 players each week, chosen from a rotating roster of regular players and spares. Matches are played at OTLBC and other clubs in the Ottawa area.
Players will be assigned to teams by the team captains. Strongest players are Division 1, and others are in Division 2
Women’s Thursday evening League (8:00 - 10:00 pm)
This is an opportunity for intermediate to advanced women to play weekly doubles with other Club members of similar ability. Players must be rated 3.5 and above. As there are more qualified players than court time can accommodate, players are rotated on a weekly schedule (everyone plays approx. 4 weeks out of 5).
NCTA Interclub Singles Leagues (Sat./Sun. afternoons)
Entry is by individual application to the NCTA.
These are men’s singles and ladies’ singles box leagues similar to our House Ladders, but operating on an Interclub basis with matches scheduled by the NCTA. Participants must be NCTA members ($25 annual fee). Please visit the NCTA web site for more information.
Only a few of our more advanced players participate in these leagues (most members prefer to play in our own house ladders). Because players in these leagues must arrange for the Club to waive guest fees for visiting opponents, members contemplating entering the singles leagues are advised to consult the Front Desk before submitting entries.
Players wishing to spare in Competitive Leagues
