OTLBC Live Music Series

Presented by OTLBC in association with Rosedale Music Productions (Enid Harrison, Paul Sutcliffe, Peter Sutcliffe) this exciting music series brings out some of Canada’s top emerging talents in an intimate setting where delivering clarity and purity of vocals and instruments enhances the experience for both musician and audience.

September 14 – Lucas Chaisson 

chaissonLucas Chaisson an award winning alt/folk singer/songwriter from Cochrane, Alberta is making his only tour stop in Ottawa @ OTLBC for our final performance in the Live Music Series. He is a gifted storyteller, with a voice full of character and musical styling that seamlessly blends folk, roots, blues and country flavours.
Telling Time, his latest recording was produced by Grammy winner Colin Linden and highlights Lucas’ strong songwriting and distinctive vocal delivery with songs like The Kid (a heart wrenching hockey ballad) and Where this River Goes.
In 2012 he won the Canadian Folk Music Award for best Young Performer and in 2015, Lucas was nominated for a West Coast Music Award for “Roots Solo Recording of the Year”.

Melissa BelMay 18 – Melissa Bel – a pop/soul artist from Toronto, Melissa is an eloquent songwriter, powerhouse vocalist and charismatic performer. Debuting in 2010 she already has three albums to her name (Brave, Distance and Don’t Forget to Breathe).

Melissa is currently in the process of writing new material for her next release and the impact can be felt on recently released singles “Sobered Up” where she returns to her blues roots and Stay Gone, which reflects a more pop/soul vibe.

Melissa is a seasoned performer. She has headlined her own German tour, opening for Matthew Good at sold out shows in New York and London, and touring internationally as a backing vocalist for Francesco Yates. In 2015, Melissa reached the finals of Quebec TV’s The Voice (La Voix).

Melissa will be sharing the stage with Benjamin Rollo, an award winning drummer/percussionist, an accomplished classical pianist, a self taught guitarist and a respected singer-songwriter who has performed with numerous JUNO and Grammy Award winners.

Amos PhotoJune 15 – 
Amos the Transparent – is a six-piece Ottawa-based alt folk/rock band that debuted their first album in 2007 “Everything I’ve Forgotten to Forget”. An EP release in 2009 called “My, What Big Teeth you Have” hit the Canadian music charts and lead to Amos performing at South by Southwest Festival (SXSW), Big Sound Festival in Australia. The single Greater Than Consequence landed airtime on MTV’s show, Degrassi.

Their second full-length recording “Goodnight, My Dear…I’m Falling Apart” was followed by their third and most recent release This Cold Escape, which is characterized as a loosely biographical concept album. Notable achievements include their nomination for Artist of the Year at the Verge Awards and appearing on CBC’s radio show Q – where host Jian Ghomeshi introduced the group as the “Canadian Wilco”.

That’s the Life for Me from their latest album is a love song with a uniquely 50’s retro sound and has been receiving widespread airplay.

Birds of BellwoodJuly 13 – Birds of Bellwoods – this Alt/Folk quartet from Toronto is known as “Four Men Making Handsome Music”. The group delivers lush harmonies, engaging melodies and haunting lyricism that have charmed audiences throughout Ontario including sold out showcases at Canadian Music Week (CMW) and North by North East (NXNE) Festivals.

The Birds of Bellwoods recently won the 2015 Toronto Independent Music Award (TIMA) for Best Folk Artist where they also received nominations for Best Song (Come Home). In 2015 were finalists in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and semi-finalists at the International Songwriting Competition – both for the song Sky.

Their debut EP The Fifth was released in August 2015 and they have a number of covers on Youtube including Radio Head’s Idioteque and Neil Young’s Harvest Moon.
